Together we can advance well-being for all.
Promote Altruism has primarily been focused on finding a cure for Scleroderma.
Scleroderma, also known as systemic sclerosis, is a rare, chronic autoimmune disease that causes the skin and other parts of the body to thicken and become inflamed. It occurs when the body's immune system attacks its own tissues, causing inflammation and the production of excessive collagen. This results in tight, hard skin and can also affect muscles, bones, internal organs, and blood vessels. While there is no cure for scleroderma, treatments can ease symptoms, slow progression, and improve quality of life.
Scleroderma can affect anyone, but some groups are at a higher risk:
Women are more likely to develop scleroderma than men, with up to 80% of diagnosed cases affecting women.
Scleroderma usually appears between the ages of 30 and 50, and is more common in adults than children.
Scleroderma can affect people of all races and ethnic groups, but African Americans are more likely to develop it and at a younger age.
Localized scleroderma is more common in people of European descent, while systemic scleroderma is more common in African Americans and Choctaw Native Americans.
Our Chairman of the Board, Saville Kellner, is a systemic scleroderma patient and is very active in raising funds to find a cure for this disease. He sits on the board of directors of St. Rose Hospital Foundation, a CommonSpirit group of hospitals, and also sits on the advisory board of Intermountain Health Care’s efforts to bring the first free-standing Children’s Hospital to Nevada. He was formerly one of the founding board members of the Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame and a former board member of Win-Win Entertainment and the Scleroderma Research Foundation.
We have raised over $3,000,000 for scleroderma research and forward over 98% of funds collected to Johns Hopkins University Hospital and UT Health, also known as Houston’s Health University, both leaders in the search for a scleroderma cure.
As we mature as a charity, we have begun to focus more on the quality of life of scleroderma patients while we continue to strive for a cure.
We invite corporations and individuals to join us in this crucial mission. Your support can make a significant difference in the lives of those affected by scleroderma. Together, we can advance research, improve treatments, and bring hope to patients and their families. Your donations are not just contributions; they are investments in a future where scleroderma is no longer a debilitating disease. Please consider partnering with Promote Altruism and be a part of this life-changing journey.
